California dining

Never, ever think outside the box

This is what we looked like when we became older and wiser

In August 1998 we made our biennial pilgrimage to San Francisco for festivity, friendship, and incidentally, the final show of a Loud Family tour. Here are Andy, Janet, Roger, Joe and Sue in front of a Berkeley landmark, and Sue and Joe looking just like themselves. More of this happy time can be found above at Michael's Vegetarian Diner, and here.

Thanksgiving, 1998, still with Scrabble and guitars. Sadly, Aaron and Jill couldn't make it thanks to a new house, nor Rog thanks to whatever, but at least we got Miles and Melissa, sorta. L-R: Andy, Jeff, John, Bradley, Steve, Janet, Rose, Paula.

Cornhenge y'know, is a natural destination for the likes of us.

At the North Market, gleeful after a long night of Sing-Along-With-Sharples, and hungry for Frank's Diner's Aware Burgers, because we need that kind of help.

After that kind of help.

A shepherd, two geese(ns), and three monkeys.

Vacation With Steve (tm), to my sentimental home of Ocean City, NJ. Steve's first view of the Atlantic! But he's facing the wrong way.

After losing a few bucks in Atlantic City, the growing Jersey Shore party hangs out with Lucy the Margate Elephant, and gets my sister to take these photos for our friend Andy Hamlin. L-R: John, Janet, Andy and Steve.

Finally made it onto the Staten Island ferry! Sharples has the hair advantage. Susy is to starboard (yes, she is - we're at the front of the ferry). Steve holds the camera, steady now.

Steve's fall 1999 visit included an historical event in the life of young Benjamin Galileo - Steve became his first babysitter! Take heed, all you who would visit Casa Como now. Actually, both Uncle Steve & Ben had a great time.

No one is allowed to visit anymore without having their pictures taken with Benjamin. Here are Aunt Rose and Uncle Jeff at the annual Thanksgiving festivity, 1999. Surprisingly, no Scrabble was played -- we wore our meek brains out on error-ridden Trivial Pursuit.

I hadn't managed to update this page in a full year, so here is Thanksgiving 2000, and Andy holding court (as usual?) at dinner. Somewhere there should be in-between photos to prove we were alive between Thanksgivings, but they are mostly of Benjamin.

In honor of Jeff's historic invention of the Miles-sicle and Melissa-sicle, and because Miles and Melissa were here for Thanksgiving 2000 and Rose and Jeff WEREN'T.

Uncle Steve reads to Benjamin.

Miles, Melissa and Benjamin horsing around.

The king of his castle. Jeff relaxes at home.

Janet and Sharples in black and white.

Feckless Beast at Rock-n-Romp, summer 2002. This was a very, very, very cool outdoor concert in some kind person's back yard, featuring rock-n-roll and play equipment. Toddlers outnumbered musicians.

More snaps from Rock-n-Romp. Amy and Janet are in the audience, with red hair, black tees, and shades.

Thanksgiving 2002; as usual we are having no fun at all. It just wouldn't be Thanksgiving without a trip to Blue Nile restaurant, or a people-sicle. But we forgot the people-sicles anyway.

We IDs, Steve and Mark all descend on Milwaukee in summer 2003.

Thanksgiving 2003 featured a visit to the Dale Chihuly installation ot Franklin Park Conservatory, on account of it was beautiful, intriguing and indoors.
